Order of Worship
During these continuing days of “stay at home” orders when our customary routines are disrupted, experts stress the importance of maintaining daily patterns as much as possible. Since most all of life is happening at home these days, many are finding it helpful to establish a set time and place at home for their work, school, recreation and other regular activities, including worship and spiritual disciplines. You may find it meaningful to create a small worship space in your home by placing a candle on a table, along with a Bible, and any other symbols of faith available to you where you and your family can gather for worship each week.
GATHER FOR WORSHIP/THE LIGHT OF CHRIST Light your candle at home
GATHERING WORDS (If you are worshipping with others, you may use two or more voices in a “Call to Worship” style at home).
This is a place of joy and resurrection! We gather to proclaim that Jesus lives!
We gather as Easter people, to testify to our faith and rejoice in the new life given to us in Christ Jesus, our living Lord.
Christ meets us here and everywhere to renew our faith and empower us for service through God’s Holy Spirit.
Blessed are those who live in the resurrection. With Hope and gladness we sing our songs of thanksgiving and praise. Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Christ is risen indeed! Thanks be to God!
HYMN Easter People, Raise Your Voices #304
OPENING PRAYER O Living God, by the grace of Christ and the power of your Holy Spirit, you transform us as individuals and as a body of believers to be your dwelling place. We gather in your presence with thanksgiving. We come with our doubts and with our fears, yet we come seeking to trust and obey. Increase our faith that we may embrace the life you intend for us, in the fullness of your love. Reveal yourself to us today. Speak to us your word of peace, the word that we need to hear, so that we may be ready to serve you in our broken and wounded world. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
GOSPEL LESSON John 20: 19-31
19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”
But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe[b] that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
This is the Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

THE LORD’S PRAYER #895
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
