ENTER THE LIGHT OF CHRIST        Light a candle at home if you wish

GATHERING WORDS (If you are worshipping with others, you may use two or more voices in a “Call to Worship” style at home).

We gather in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord, the one who is our Good Shepherd.

It is the Lord our God who restores our life.

Surely God’s goodness and mercy surrounds us.

God’s arms are wide open. God calls us to abide in His presence today and forever.

HYMN                      Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us                                #381

OPENING PRAYER O Loving and Shepherding God, you gather us into your presence and shower us with your grace and love. In the midst of trouble, you lead us beside refreshing waters, bringing us healing and wholeness. Guide us to your green pastures today, that we might feed on your word and be made alive in your love for us. By your grace, enable us to abide in your presence and rest in the assurance that You are with us now and always. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 THE PSALM                                                Psalm 23

King James Version

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The Message

God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.

Even when the way goes through Death Valley, I’m not afraid when you walk at my side. Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure. You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing.

Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.

This is the Word of God for the people of God.   Thanks be to God.

CHORUS            Gentle Shepherd                    ~ Wm. J.  and Gloria Gaither

Gentle Shepherd come and lead us, For we need you to help us find our way.
Gentle Shepherd come and feed us, For we need your strength from day to day.
There’s no other we can turn to Who can help us face another day.
Gentle Shepherd come and lead us For we need you to help us find our way.

For we need you to help us find our way.

SERMON                                         The Lord is My Shepherd

THE LORD’S PRAYER                                                                                #895

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

HYMN OF DISCPLESHIP      God Will Take Care of You          #130

BLESSING          We go forth from this time of worship in the strength and assurance of God’s abiding presence. We know that our Shepherd goes with us, that God’s love and mercy will find us no matter where we are.

All God’s people said. Amen.
