HYMN OF PRAISE                           Take My Life and Let it Be                                         #399

OPENING PRAYER     O God, as we gather in your presence today, we are thankful that the treasures of your Kingdom are available to us, that through your Son, Jesus Christ, you invite us to live as your people, citizens of your Kingdom. Bless us as we gather in your name, open our hearts and minds to the word of truth you have for us today that we might be strengthened, renewed and refreshed for service in your name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

BLESSING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Almighty God, there are treasures all around us, even in these days: family, friends, your abiding presence with us, and the love of Christ Jesus our Lord. Bless these gifts that we bring before you now so that others may come to know the true treasures of your love and grace. In your holy name we pray. Amen.

Proclaiming and Responding to God’s Word

THE GOSPEL LESSON                    Matthew 13: 44-52

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked. “Yes,” they replied. 52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”

This is the Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

PRAYER OF DISCIPLESHIP

THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.
