                                                          Gathering for Worship

WORDS OF WELCOME/ENTER THE LIGHT OF CHRIST (You may light a candle at home if you wish)

GATHERING WORDS (If you are worshipping with others, you may use two or more voices in a “Call to Worship” style at home).

We come as people of faith, trusting in God’s steadfast love.

We gather as those who want to give God first place in our lives.

Gather in silent awe before the Source of all things.

Climb God’s holy hill and give thanks.

We will proclaim the name of the Lord our God.

We will give thanks forever for what the Almighty has done.

HYMN OF PRAISE                  Sweet Hour of Prayer                                        #496

OPENING PRAYER     Almighty and everlasting God, You are the Source of all things. You are our Refuge and our Strength. We come before you, asking that you would enable us to do what is right and believe what is true, so that by our faith and our actions, we may proclaim before others the love, grace and forgiveness that you have made known to us. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O God, you call us to be the hands and feet of Christ in our world. By our gifts, may your will be accomplished and your name proclaimed here at home and around the world. You have blessed us beyond measure. May we live, by your grace and mercy, to be a blessings to others. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Proclaiming and Responding to God’s Word

THE PSALM                                 Psalm 4: 1-3

Answer me when I call, O God of my right!

You have given me room when I was in distress.

Be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.

How long, O people, shall my honor suffer shame?

How long will you love vain words, and seek after lies?

But know that the Lord has set apart the righteous as God’s own,

The Lord hears when I call.

THE GOSPEL LESSON                    Luke 10:38-42

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

The Word of God for the people of God.      Thanks be to God.
