HYMN OF PRAISE This Is My Father’s World #144
OPENING PRAYER Almighty God, as we bow before you in worship, we come with minds that are crowded with thoughts, hearts that are distracted by the events of this past week, spirits that long to be refreshed. Lift us into your holy presence as we seek your face. Open our eyes to see your will. Open our ears to hear your voice. Open our hearts to seek after your righteousness and your vision for our lives and for our church. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
MINISTRY MOMENT Honoring Our Veterans
BLESSING OF GOD’S TITHES and our OFFERINGS Gracious God, out of your abundant blessings to us, we offer our gifts to you. All that we have and all that we are is yours. May these offerings and our lives be dedicated to your kingdom purposes so that your will may be accomplished in us and through us for the world. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Proclaiming and Responding to God’s Word
THE GOSPEL LESSON Luke 12: 13-21
13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” 15 And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” 16 And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”
The Word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.
SERMON The “Stuff” of Stewardship
PRAYER OF DISCIPLESHIP
THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
