EMMANUEL’S NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
*Thanks to everyone that contributed to our August Communion Offering designated for flood relief in Southwest VA and Eastern Kentucky. Your gifts totaled over $750 and your generosity is most appreciated. We will continue to collect flood relief offerings throughout August. Please clearly mark your gift as COMMUNION/FLOOD RELIEF. Our September “Back to School Communion offering is designated for the ministry of Amherst Cares as we begin a new school year.
*If you brought school supplies for Temperance Elementary today, please place them on the altar in front of the Sanctuary. Thank you for helping meet this need for students in our community.
*Today is “Back-to-School” Blessing Sunday, and we look forward to offering a prayer of blessing for all students, teachers, school personnel (preschool and beyond!) and Amherst Cares volunteers who are with us in worship today at the start of this new school year. We will be dedicating your “You Are Our Sunshine” gift bags for Amherst Elementary and the school supplies for Temperance Elementary.
*50th Anniversary Party for Lindy and Margaret Ann White: The family invites you to join them in celebrating this milestone on Saturday, August 20, 2:00-5:00 p.m. in the EUMC Social Hall. Please RSVP to Kristen White Cox (434-942-8446) or Margaret Ann (434-444-2206) no later than August 14. No gifts please.
*Annual Ice Cream Social, NEXT Sunday, August 21 at 6:30 p.m. on the Church Lawn (in Social Hall if raining). Please sign up to bring ice cream, or indicate what you can bring on the back of your blue “connect with us” form. Both homemade and store-bought ice creams are appreciated. Join us for a great time of fellowship and music! Use the hot pink insert in today’s bulletin to invite your friends and neighbors to join us. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN LAWN CHAIR.
*Appreciation for First Responders: In appreciation of our “local heroes” and in observance of Patriot Day that commemorates 9/11, the Vitality Team invites the church family to join with us in showing our appreciation to our fire, rescue squad and law enforcement personnel with a gift box of “grab-and-go” snacks. We will collect pre-wrapped snack-sized packs of cookies, crackers, granola bars, candy bars and chips (no water bottles please) to deliver to our community servants. We will collect these items in the Narthex tub beginning August 21 through September 11. Thanks for your help.
*The Worship Team has scheduled their next meeting for Sunday, August 28 after worship in the Social Hall.
*Our Church Council/Finance Team will not meet in August. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Social Hall.
*The Town of Amherst is currently seeking input from Town residents regarding its Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan will affect decisions regarding land use, transportation, housing, recreation, and Town services. A public meeting will be held for residents to discuss their vision for the community on Wednesday, August 24, at Town Hall. Information will be available beginning at 6:00 p.m. and a formal presentation will be at 7:00 p.m.
*Summer Worship: As the hot summer continues, everyone is encouraged to dress “cool and casual” for worship. “Singing our Favorites” for Summer Worship will continue through Labor Day. Please indicate any hymn(s) you would like for the congregation to sing on the back of your blue “Connect with Us” form in worship, including any particular verse(s) of the hymn that are your favorites. Opportunity will also be given during worship to request a favorite hymn “on the spot.” If your favorite is not in our hymnal, request it anyway and we will do our best to find it!
