EMMANUEL’S NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
*UMCOR “Kits for Conference” Health Kits. Deadline to receive donations or kits is TODAY. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this mission project.
*Pentecost Sunday is today when we celebrate God’s gift of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the church. Cupcakes will be served in the social hall following worship as we say, “Happy Birthday, Church!”
*Today is Memorial Day Sunday: The Worship Team appreciates the opportunity to honor the relatives of those in our church family who lost their lives in service to our country.
*Amherst Cares last day of packing for the 2022-2023 school year will be May 31.
*Graduate Recognition, Sunday, June 11: Do you have someone in your family or know of someone in our church family who is graduating this year? If so, please share the information with the church by emailing the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org or including it on the back of your blue “Connect with Us” form in worship. Please include the name of the graduate; the institution from which they are graduating; the diploma, degree or certificate being conferred; your name and relationship to the graduate; and any future plans if known. The deadline to receive graduate information is Sunday, June 4. We look forward to honoring our graduates with a gift from the church on Sunday, June 11.
*Meals on Wheels needs your help! Our Meals on Wheels team participates with Amherst County’s Blue Ledge MOW by providing a meal for approximately 30 clients on the first Monday of each month. Cindy Sale has done a wonderful job as coordinator for this ministry for the last several years and she wishes to step back from leadership at this time. While Cindy will still participate on the MOWs team, we need a new team leader (or 2 co-leaders) to coordinate the meals each month. The menu is usually planned via email and volunteers take turns bringing the food items and helping in the kitchen to package the meals for the drivers to pick up (approximately 3-5 p.m. on the 1st Monday). If you feel led to coordinate this ministry team, or to be part of our MOWs team, please contact Cindy Sale (email@example.com; 434-401-7249) who can share the details of what is involved in this commitment. We appreciate everyone in the congregation who has made designated gifts to MOWs to help offset the cost of the food each month. *The Prayer Shawl Ministry will not be meeting in June, July, and August. They will resume on the second Tuesday, September 12 at 1 p.m. If you have any questions or concerns please speak to one of the members, Pearl Clark, Judy McCartney, Marge Steadman, Cookie Odgen, or Janie Stinnett. Anyone interested in coming to the meetings, feel free to join us. We would love to have you.
*Love to Garden, but Not Every Day? We are in the process of converting one of the rose gardens into a perennial garden due to the declining health of the roses and labor-intensive care required to maintain a rose garden. We need a team of willing volunteers to maintain gardens on church grounds which would include deadheading, weeding and watering once a week as needed. If we can locate 8 volunteers, each team of two volunteers would only be required to work once a month from May through October. To me, there is no better stress reducer than working in the peaceful surroundings of our beautiful church building, listening to the church chimes, and spending time as a steward of God’s green earth. Please call or email Karen (946-5545, RoadsEnd1991@gmail.com) no later than June 15 to sign up for this task. – Karen Sacasky and Augusta Peters
