EMMANUEL’S NEWS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
*The 241st Session of the Virginia Annual Conference will take place in Roanoke at the Berglund Center this week from Wednesday through Saturday, June 14 to 17. Please be in prayer for your lay member delegate, David Hewes, our district at-large delegate, Gail Hewes, your clergy member delegate, Pastor Nancy, and all the leaders and delegates that will gather from across Virginia. Pray that a spirit of unity and peace will guide our time together, and that God’s will is done in all things. In case of any pastoral emergencies that arise, please call Pastor Nancy’s cell phone (434-401-5776).
*Today is Graduate Recognition Sunday and we welcome any of our graduates and families that are present with us today. The Worship Team looks forward to honoring you during worship with a gift of congratulations on your achievement.
*Father’s Day is next Sunday, June 18 and the worship team looks forward to recognizing all of our dads and men who are present in worship on that day! We invite the men to wear their craziest or funniest tie/bowtie to worship in honor of Father’s Day.
*Gospel Concert at EUMC on Saturday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. featuring Rev. Anderson and the Spiritual Sons. This is a benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity of Amherst and a love offering will be collected. Tours of the new Habitat homes across the street from the church will be conducted before and after the concert.
*First Responders Parade on Saturday, June 24th: Emmanuel will have an entry in the parade. Our float/truck will be in memory of W.A. Ogden and Billy Wydner who were part of our church family and served our community for decades. If you would like to help decorate the float, please come to Teresa Belcher’s home (215 Union Hill Road) at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. If you would like to ride in the parade, please contact Jeanie Combs for details (434-907-2487). A very special “thank you” to Lindy and Margaret Ann for the use of their truck.
*Summer Worship: As temperatures rise during the summer months, feel free to dress “cool and casual” for summer worship. We always look forward to “Singing our Favorites” during summer worship, so please use the back of your blue “Connect with Us” form to share your favorite hymns.
*The Women’s Tuesday Bible Study will not meet in June. We will resume our regular second Tuesday schedule on Tuesday, July 11 at 9:30 a.m. in the Mattie Ware Classroom. Please join us and bring a friend!
*The Prayer Shawl Ministry will not be meeting in June, July, and August. They will resume on the second Tuesday, September 12 at 1 p.m. If you have any questions or concerns please speak to one of the members, Pearl Clark, Judy McCartney, Marge Steadman, Cookie Odgen, or Janie Stinnett. Anyone interested in coming to the meetings, feel free to join us. We would love to have you.
*Love to Garden, but Not Every Day? We are in the process of converting one of the rose gardens into a perennial garden due to the declining health of the roses and labor-intensive care required to maintain a rose garden. We need a team of willing volunteers to maintain gardens on church grounds which would include deadheading, weeding and watering as needed. Thanks to everyone that has volunteered so far. We have our team of 8 who will serve in pairs once a month from May to October. We could use some substitute back-up volunteers in case someone is not able to fulfill their responsibilities on a given week. Please call or email Karen (946-5545, RoadsEnd1991@gmail.com) no later than June 15 to volunteer. With thanks, Karen Sacasky and Augusta Peters
