Response and Relief for Victims of Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey

Our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) and United Methodist Men of the Virginia Conference have been active in responding to the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and Louisiana. We can help in the following ways:

1.    Pray for all those impacted by the storm, for loved ones that have been lost, for those that have been displaced, for all the first responders, search and rescue teams and those that are working around the clock to provide help.

2.    Make a donation to UMCOR for Disaster Response. Our September 3rd Communion Offering ($317) has been designated for this purpose. We will continue to collect gifts through September 17 and write one check from our church. Please make your check to EUMC for “Harvey” or mark cash gifts accordingly, and we will write one check from our church for this offering.

3.    Make an UMCOR Cleaning Kit to be sent directly to Texas and Louisiana. We will collect kits in our Fellowship Hall until noon on Monday, September 18. The church office is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., so please bring your kits during those hours and follow the instructions on the table by the door. Kits will be delivered to our District’s drop-off point in Evergreen. If anyone is able to assist with this project or help deliver kits to Evergreen, please contact Pastor Nancy. Follow the directions here to make a Cleaning Kit.

New Bible study begins this month

You are cordially invited to join us as we begin our Fall Bible Study using The Story. With the clear, accessible text of the New International Version of the Bible, The Story condenses “the greatest story ever told” into 31 chapters arranged chronologically, allowing the teachings of Scripture to read like a novel. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the Bible as a whole and the continuing story of God’s love and redemption. Our Wednesday Group meets at 9:30 a.m. at the church, but other groups are forming at other times as interest demands.  Materials are $12 and include a hardcover copy of The Story Bible and a study book. We will use these same materials from September through May. Please register by Sunday, September 10 by calling the church office, 946-7624. If you would like to be part of a study group but cannot attend on Wednesday mornings, please let the office know your preferences so we can determine if there is enough interest to form another group. Everyone is welcome to order a copy of The Story ($5) for your personal, devotional use, whether or not you participate in a study group. The fall session will meet from September 20 through November 22.

Award Winning Pianist Jon Nilsen will perform in Concert at our church, Saturday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m.

Admission is free.  A love offering will be taken, and CDs will be available for purchase.
